Traditional Indian Recipe - Dal Tadka


Dal Tadka is a quintessential Indian lentil dish known for its rich flavors and comforting texture. This recipe utilizes traditional methods to ensure the nutritional integrity of the ingredients.

Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow lentils (moong dal)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:
1. Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
2. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, and salt. Add 3 cups of water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles until the lentils are soft and mushy.
3. In a small pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds. Once they splutter, pour this tempering over the cooked lentils and mix well.
4. Simmer the dal for a few minutes until it reaches your desired consistency. Adjust salt if needed.
5. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or chapati.

This traditional Dal Tadka recipe preserves the nutritional value of the lentils while enhancing the flavor with aromatic spices and tempering.
